The Local Biodiversity Action Planning (LBAP) process in Orkney is aimed at achieving the UKšs commitments at a local level. The initial phase of this project was to set up a list of species and habitats that were found to be of conservation concern. That list was, and is being, translated into action plans. The plans are aimed at the local context and how best the local agencies, authorities and communities can reach the targets set out in the plans. The LBAP is a dynamic document and will evolve over time with the changes in the environment and as new initiatives arise. To make the LBAP process more relevant to the people of Orkney Area Action Plans are being created. These plans will focus on the habitats and species that are found in the 21 areas of Orkney. It is important for the actions to be of the nature that the local community can accomplish them with little support. This provides the community the opportunity to make the changes necessary to improve their community and gives them the pride and ownership important to this process. The Complete Orkney Local Biodiversity Action Plan is available to as a PDF file. Click on the LOGO to download. |
